Body Contouring

Liposuction

Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportions, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image.

Liposuction techniques may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the:

  • Thighs
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Inner knee
  • Chest area
  • Cheeks, Chin and Neck
  • Calves and ankles

In some cases, liposuction is performed alone, in other cases it is used with plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction or a tummy tuck.

VASER Liposuction or VASERlipo® utilizes ultrasound energy is a new technique added to traditional liposuction that yields dramatic results. VASERlipo® patients show improved skin retraction, less pain, swelling, downtime, and quicker results.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include:

  • Pregnancy
  • Aging
  • Significant fluctuations in weight
  • Heredity
  • Prior surgery

Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck removes excess fat and skin, and in most cases restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.

Body Contouring (after massive weight loss)

Massive weight loss generally results in redundant, amorphous skin in the trunk, breast, arms and thighs. Following weight reduction surgery, or any substantial amount of weight loss, the skin and tissues often lack elasticity and cannot conform to the reduced body size. Loose skin can lead to patient dissatisfaction with appearance, along with physiologic problems including intertrigo and skin necrosis. As a result, skin that has been severely stretched now is unsupported:

  • Upper arms may sag and appear loose and full
  • Breasts may flatten and hang with nipples pointed downward
  • Abdominal area may extend around the sides and into the lower back area, resulting in an apron-like overhang
  • Buttocks, groin and thighs can sag and cause hanging pockets of skin

Surgical body contouring following major weight loss improves the shape and tone of your underlying tissue that supports fat and skin, and removes excess sagging fat and skin. The result is a more normal appearance to the body, with smoother contours. This is, in essence, the final phase of your total weight loss experience.

Body Lift

A body lift improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin.
Excess sagging fat and skin are removed and the procedure(s) can improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface, which is commonly known as cellulite.

A body lift may include these areas:

  • Abdominal area – locally or extending around the sides and into the lower back area
  • Buttocks that may be low, flat or shaped unevenly
  • Groin that may sag into inner thigh
  • Thigh – the inner, outer, or posterior thigh, or the thigh’s circumference

Aging, sun damage, pregnancy, significant fluctuations in weight, and genetic factors may contribute to poor tissue elasticity that can result in sagging of the abdomen, buttocks and thighs.

Arm Lift

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that:

  • Reduces excess sagging skin that droops downward
  • Tightens and smoothes the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm
  • Reduces localized pockets of fat in the upper arm region

Fluctuations in weight, growing older, and heredity can cause your upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance. This is a condition that cannot be corrected through exercise.

Arm lift surgery may be right for you if the underside of your upper arms are sagging or appear loose and full due to excess skin and fat.

Mommy Makeover

What is a mommy makeover? After childbearing many women are dissatisfied with the appearance of the body. Pregnancy and breast feeding can have a negative impact on the breast and abdomen. Many mothers find a have breasts that have changed in volume and are sagging. The abdominal skin may have stretch marks and be loose. Women who have undergone C-section delivery is often note a “shelf” of loose skin above their scar. Despite their effort of diet and exercise, these problem spots persist. Many women desire to return to their pre-pregnancy. A Mommy Makeover is the plastic surgeon’s effort to achieve this goal.

The surgery usually involves improving the breasts by replacing the lost volume with breast implants. If the position of the nipples has dropped too much then a breast lift may be recommended. Sometimes both an implant and a lift are necessary to center the nipple, improved breast volume and achieved better coverage. The abdomen is improved by performing a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) which removes the excess skin and some of the stretch marks and tightens the abdominal muscles which may have been stretched apart by the pregnancy. Liposuction may be performed on the excessive full fatty areas.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin, and in some cases fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body.

If fitness and weight loss efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate to your overall body image, a surgical lift may be right for you.
